During 2004 C&D (Sheet Metal) Engineering Ltd designed, supplied and installed various bespoke storage units for the archival collection in the recently refurbished Henry Cole wing of the V&A, providing the capacity to safely store the large collection of archived items, to the museums requirements, also making these items easily accessible. Each cabinet was designed in a modular construction of being assembled onsite, as access was very limited, it was designed to provide flexibility for future relocation if required and with a durable powder coated finish. Units were design in a combination of specialised shelf units some with Planchest drawers and stand alone planchests units. Many of these were fitted to mobile bases
A great deal of thought was put into the design of these units with the safe use by the user paramount, this included rollout support shelves at high levels, front rollers on heavy duty shelves
